At least that was the estimate of the chatty dude standing next to us, just minutes after the smoking set that Grace Potter & the Nocturnals put on.Grace is the only person at this festival besides Michael Stipe who just begs you to watch their every movement while they're on stage. In her stunning red and white dress and red boots, Grace began by pounding out "Getting in Tune" on her organ with as much force as The Who used to.

Grace worked the crowd into a frenzy, trading licks on her flying V with Nocturnals guitarist Scott Tournet. Whether melting faces with her guitar or breaking hearts with her keys, Grace had the crowd pining for her.
She even helped us feel better about the harsh weather, saying "You Guys are troopers and joyous people."
Then, she got elaborate. During a tune-up she looked around and said, "There'
s a lot of people wearin hats. Take off your hats" (2/3 of the crowd takes their hats off and sticks them in the air). "It's a hat party!" she exclaimed and then points out one fan who still has his hat on. "You didn't take yours off, buddy. "I'm watching you. That's what this song is called." So witty, this girl.Loved the whole show. I need to get more of her music.-z.t.
